Dave Fessenden

Dave Fessenden did not grow up attending a church that clearly preached the gospel, but he had an intense desire to know his purpose in life. Though he believed in God and Jesus Christ, he didn’t understand the Bible or the true meaning of the Christian faith. By his early teens, he had given up trying to understand Christianity and decided to build his own set of beliefs by trial and error.

Then he met a group of true Christians, and realized that the complex belief system he had tried to build would never give him the peace these people had and the love they showed to others. They asked him if he was a Christian, and he said yes, not really understanding the question. Then they asked, “Would you like to pray for the fullness of the Holy Spirit, to help you live the Christian life?” He said he would give it a try.

“As we prayed,” Dave recalls, “I was impressed that this was something I could not yet ask for. I prayed, ‘What should I do, Lord?’ Suddenly, things I had heard all my life about Christ became clear, and I knew that I must repent of my sins and ask Christ to come into my life—so I did.”

For the first few years of his Christian life, Dave admits, he was a weak, confused believer. Through the counsel of older believers, he began studying the Scriptures, praying and sharing his faith. He also came to realize that he needed to let Christ take full control of his life.

Over the years God has used him in the areas of teaching and music. Dave has used his gifts and training to serve the Lord as a singer/songwriter, as a book author, and as an editor. “More and more,” he says, “I am learning that as I let Him take charge, He fulfills the desires of my heart.”
